"Bullying is just fine as long as you have a permission slip from God"

Another successful strike to the progressives from the Christian right! Michigan decide that it was fine that a gay teen killed himself because of bullying because of the bullies' "sincerely held religious belief[s] or moral conviction[s]" I can see it now gangs of Christians taking on LGBT gangs The Outsiders style, but seriously this is not fine. A serious religious conviction is no reason to bully a child to the point where they feel their only option is suicide. I kind of wish that John Stewart covered this story because Colbert's character doesn't get the people going like it should have. The jokes in the bit only bring in awkward laughter because this really isn't something that people want to joke about. We aren't talking about Herman Cain being frisky or Where Rick Perry stands on global warming. We are talking about a teen that was bullied into killing himself, and someone out there wants to justify it? Unacceptable. I'm not trying to bash on religion, but you can't be held to a different standard than everyone else. If you bully you get in trouble that is the bottom line. Here is the link to the video from the Colbert Report so all of you guys can be as mad as I am.

  1. The thing that gets me the most about religion, and here I speak about most stems of Christianity in particular, is that "God loves all his creatures". Except the LGBT community, and he used to not love the Women or African American creatures, until the white men of the world gave Him permission to do so. I think people use religion as an excuse sometimes. This, however is absolutely preposterous. I don't know how they got away with that! Am I angry enough?

  2. I will make people angry in saying this. Religion should be abolished. Science is proven. Religion is not. Stephan Hawking has disproven Genesis and creationism, saying that since there was no time before the Big Bang, there was no time for a being to create the universe. It is a fraud. In the past they have led wars, banned education, and sold tickets to heaven to cover their debts. Religion today is for the uneducated, the ones too weak to accept reality. Sorry, but it had to come out. Somebody has died because of it. It is embarrassing that people today allow the killing of people in some being's name. Punish the SINNERS who killed that poor boy. It is murder. Do away with religion, and the world will shine in a way that only science can illuminate.

  3. Hey, I don't agree much with religion, at all, but you can't just eliminate something that is as natural to some people as breathing. You can't control something that is a thought and idea in someone's mind. To actually eliminate spirituality from the human soul is a ridiculous and impossible feat. What's your course of action? Burn the holy books? Kill the priests and leaders? That makes you just as bad, or maybe even worse, as they are because now the scientific community is hating them back for their way of life. It isn't the general religious population that is the issue, it's the extremists that make religion dangerous. Are all Muslims terrorists? No. Are all Christians hateful to the LBGT community? No. People die in car crashes everyday. Should we stop going places?

Religion is a coping mechanism in some ways, yes, but what's wrong with a mechanism that helps someone break out of alcoholism, or drug addiction,or just brings them relief from . Using a mental tool to help you out of something isn't weak. It's a self support system. People who are taking drugs for mental illness aren't weak, they just did what they had to to get better. Religion is some peoples crutch through life.

As long as those practicing it are not harming anyone, religion is not something that needs to be killed off like a rabid beast. As for those actually harming people, they just need some education. However, if intolerance is met with intolerance, where does that get anyone?

There are many people today who are quietly spiritual, and are also intelligent. For the record, I am also an atheist. I simply think the theory of a god or gods is wrong. I just don't think control or a dismissal of people's deeply personal thoughts is right.

PS Sorry for the novel everyone.
